Creatorpreneurship isn’t a vibe, it’s a business. Here’s how I learned to treat it like one.

When I first started creating content, I didn’t exactly think of myself as a business owner. I thought of myself as a storyteller, an artist, an advocate. I was showing up online to talk about mental health, chronic illness, and identity, not to build an empire. But the truth is, the moment you start monetizing your work, you’re running a business. Whether you realize it or not.
As I stepped into creatorpreneurship, it didn’t take long to realize that building a personal brand online isn’t just about followers it’s about foundations. You need contracts. You need systems. You need a long-term vision. And yes, you need business insurance.
When you’re scaling, pitching brands, signing contracts, you’re not just making content anymore. You’re building intellectual property. You’re shaping a business that (if you’re lucky) can outlive you. That’s why I partnered with Hiscox. Because protecting my work isn’t just smart it’s essential.
For me, treating my creator career like a business was never optional. From day one, I was thinking about how to grow, scale, and advocate in a way that felt aligned and sustainable. I was always passionate about impact, but passion doesn’t pay your invoices. I quickly realized that if I wanted to be taken seriously in this space, I had to take myself seriously, too.
- That meant understanding contracts.
- That meant protecting my content as intellectual property.
- That meant investing in tools and education.
- That meant finding insurance that could support me if something went wrong.
Because the truth is, things do go wrong. A few years ago, I was working on a brand deal that went sideways. The terms weren’t honored. There was no contract in place. And while I learned from that moment, I also realized something deeper: I didn’t want to build a business on vibes alone. I wanted infrastructure. I wanted support.
That mindset has carried me through everything from signing book deals to launching my creator education platform, Hosts of Influence. And one of the biggest shifts I’ve made is learning to prepare for the best-case scenario, not the worst. If I’m creating content that could lead to major partnerships, why wouldn’t I set myself up to handle those wins?
📌 One of the most empowering things about having business insurance is peace of mind. If something goes wrong, my insurance is there. It protects me. It protects the brand. And most importantly, it gives me the freedom to create without fear.
That freedom has allowed me to keep growing. Today, I’m not just making videos, I’m publishing books (A Kids Book About Chronic Illness), speaking on stages, and launching new businesses. I’m building a brand that’s bigger than a single platform. And every time I show up for my audience, I’m also showing up for my business.
👉 If I could give new creators one piece of advice, it would be this: start building toward your long-term vision, even if it feels far away. When I began, I was sharing content around body image and mental health. That evolved into chronic illness advocacy, workplace culture, and business strategy. But it was always intentional. I knew where I wanted to go, and every brand deal, every post, every speaking gig was part of that map.
And once you start growing? Start protecting. Your creativity is your currency, and that is priceless. If you want to scale your business, if you want to build something that lasts, you need the kind of foundation that can support big dreams. Business insurance is a part of that.
So if you’re serious about growing as a creatorpreneur, check out what Hiscox offers to safeguard your work. Because being a creator isn’t “just content”, it’s commerce. It’s community. It’s a career. And if you’re building a business, you deserve to protect it like one.
