Hiscox strengthens US Claims team with senior hires

New York, NY – June 7, 2021 – Hiscox, the international specialist insurer, has strengthened its US claims team with the appointments of John Morales as Head of Technical Claims & Exposure Management, and Jason Kunert as Vice President of Casualty Claims. Both will report to Tom Wolczik, Head of Claims in the US, and serve on Hiscox’s Claims Senior Leadership Team.

Prior to joining Hiscox, John Morales – who will be based in Atlanta, Georgia – served as Vice President of Technical Claims at Sompo International, where he helped to drive the creation of claims best practices, including an audit program and an imbedded data driven claims exposure tool for reserving accuracy. Jason Kunert – who will be based in Phoenix, Arizona – served as Assistant Vice President of Casualty Claims at RLI where he led the western region’s casualty group, handling claims on both admitted and E&S/non-admitted business. Additionally, he was a member of RLI’s Diversity & Inclusion Council. Prior to RLI, Kunert managed a team of over 150 claims professionals at Nationwide E&S as Associate Vice President, Claims, and also held the roles of Director of Brokerage Claims, and Director of Subrogation and Special Investigations Unit. Kunert earned his MBA at the University of Phoenix, following a BA in Business Administration from Grand View University.

Commenting on the new appointments, Wolczik says: “The quality of our claims service is an integral part of the Hiscox DNA and the appointments of John and Jason represent a significant investment in our ongoing claims capabilities.

“In a newly created role, John will be driving claims consistency and developing best practices across all products with claims oversight nationally. He will be a strategic partner for the underwriting and actuarial teams, helping to prioritize and drive reserving analysis and exposure management.”

“Jason is a renowned authority in the industry on casualty claims, and brings exceptional and effective people leadership skills particularly as a champion of diversity and inclusion. We are thrilled to have both join the Hiscox team and I look forward to working with them.”
