What is Errors and Omissions Insurance?

Errors and omissions (E&O) insurance, also called professional liability insurance or indemnity insurance, protects your business if you are sued for things like negligence or faulty workmanship. It may cover claims that you did something you shouldn’t have (an error) or didn’t do something you should have (an omission). E&O coverage can pay the cost of your defense, even if the lawsuit is found to be without merit, and a settlement or judgement if required.

Why do I need Errors and Omissions Insurance?
If you provide a service or offer advice, you could be sued. Errors and omissions insurance is important if your business:
Provides a service
You can get sued for just about anything, especially if a client thinks you didn’t provide your services as promised. Errors and omissions insurance could cover the cost of such a lawsuit.
Gives advice to clients
Consultants and other businesses which provide advice to clients may be at risk of being sued if their advice doesn’t produce the desired result.
Is requested to have errors and omissions insurance to complete a contract
Having the proper insurance coverage shows potential clients that you are professional, reliable, and ready to work. Clients may require it before they’ll sign a contract.
Uses temporary staff or independent contractors to provide client services
Errors and omissions insurance can cover not only your own actions, but those of your employees, temporary staff, and independent contractors.
