Hiscox Foundation USA Donates to Social Justice Organizations
In light of recent events surrounding racial inequality in the US, the Hiscox Foundation USA will donate to two organizations that work for social justice. The Foundation is donating $100,000 each to the Equal Justice Initiative and National CARES Mentoring Movement.
The Equal Justice initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration, challenging racial and economic injustice, and changing the narrative about race in America. As a nonprofit organization, the Equal Justice Initiative provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced or abused in state jails and prisons, while challenging the death penalty and excessive punishment, and provides re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people. By aiding communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment, they work to protect basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.
The National CARES Mentoring Movement is dedicated to alleviating intergenerational poverty among African Americans by offering Black children in low-income families and unstable communities the social, emotional, and academic support they need to realize their potential and succeed in college or vocational training programs and 21st century careers. CARES transforms the lives of Black children by recruiting Black men and women to mentor them through unique, 36-week-long programs designed to help children heal the multiple traumas of impoverishment and override their debilitating effects.
In addition to these two donations, Hiscox is providing ‘double match’ funds for employee donations to appropriate causes until July 26.
“There is still much more work to be done as bringing about change will be a marathon rather than a sprint,” said Bob Gadaleta, president of the Hiscox Foundation USA. “But Hiscox is committed to the journey.”
The Hiscox Foundation USA supports non-profit, community-based charitable organizations. Given the Foundation’s grant selection process is employee driven, the Foundation does not accept external requests for contributions
The Hiscox Foundation USA is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation that is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code. Hiscox Foundation USA supports a range of social and humanitarian initiatives that are funded by an annual donation from Hiscox USA. The Foundation focuses on supporting unaffiliated charities, such as those identified above, that aid and improve education, science, advancement of the arts and culture, children’s rights and that provide services to disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.
