The Affordable Care Act is here – will more start-ups follow?

October 1, 2013

The new healthcare law has gone into affect. See why Hiscox USA CEO Ben Walter thinks this may lead to a rise in entrepreneurship.

Have you heard anything about this new health care law in the U.S.?  There are a lot of different opinions and energetic arguments on both sides about the merits of the Affordable Care Act and what it means for small business.  But, whatever your opinion, it’s the new law of the land as of today, October 1, 2013, and could have a big impact for potential entrepreneurs who now have more healthcare options outside their current corporate plans.

At Hiscox we talk to entrepreneurs all the time, our MyStartupStory series provided great insight from business owners, and one of their primary concerns before taking the leap and starting their own business is healthcare coverage for themselves and their families.

Ben Walter, CEO of Hiscox USA, talked with the Wall Street Journal’s “Money Beat” yesterday about how the new law would impact entrepreneurship in the US.

What are your thoughts?  Will the availability of healthcare through the new exchanges take away the last hurdle to starting out on your own?
