Responsibility

Community

We believe that companies can have a very positive role in local communities, beyond creating economic benefits through employment. Most of our community work is done through the Hiscox Foundation, a charity funded by an annual donation from Hiscox.

Our policy is to contribute principally to:

  • education
  • medical science
  • arts
  • independent living for elderly, disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society

How we get involved is driven largely by our employees: any member of staff can nominate a charity or cause for assistance from the Foundation.

The Hiscox Foundation is principally a UK body; however we aim to have a similar level of community commitment wherever we operate. In the US, as part of the purchase of American Live Stock, we took over a small charitable foundation, now called the Hiscox Foundation USA. The Foundation, which formerly supported animal charities, is broadening its scope in line with our contribution policy.

  • UK children’s charity, Richard’s House
  • Whitechapel Art Gallery, London
  • ROCKITS Athletes in Action, for Asian-American young people
  • Bermuda Sunshine League, a charity for disadvantaged children
  • Bermuda Masterworks Foundation, which aims to repatriate art by Bermudian artists or representing Bermuda
